Kasauli
Perched atop one of the
hill ranges of Himalaya is this quaint little hill station called Kasauli.
Named after a flower “Kasool” and synonymous with “time wrap”, it truly wraps
you away from your busy big city life to a honk free-dust free time where you
were rooted to nature. A small town in the state of Himachal Pradesh, it is one
such holiday destination that offers its visitors not only the scenic beauty
and the weather to enjoy but also a relaxing one that one would love to sneak
out every now and them.
A mere three hours’ drive
from Chandigarh the town is well connected via Chandigarh Airport. A neighbor
of queen of hills, Shimla, this under rated hill station has a rustic charm of
British era. The town was discovered by Britishers and is evident in its
cobbled Streets, flower filled gardens and beautiful bungalows with artistic
architecture. One of the fascinating ways to reach here is to board the toy
train from Kalka and reach up to Dharampur which is 13 kms to Kasauli.
With temperatures, around
10 – 20 C, April – November is the best time to visit. Even though I visited in
the Month November, they say monsoon makes this alluring little town lovelier.
I can only imagine walking in the woods, rain falling on tall pine trees, drops
dripping down dripping down leaves, fragrance of fresh flower and soil;
something so romantic that one could not dream in metros.
“Atithi Devo Bhava” is
taken quite literally here as the people are simple, warm and very good
hosts. We stayed in a small resort
roosting on a crag overlooking a pine forest. The wood adorned interiors, misty
weald view, delectable cuisine and the bonfire at the end of the day were true
soul quenchers.
A little hike in the pine forest, may not be
in the recommended things to do list, but if you are looking for an offbeat
adventure then it’s the best way to get away from all the human commorancy
which takes you close to the untamed natural beauty. Like any other hill
station across India, this also has its own Mall road bedecked with tiny shops
of local people with wooden articrafts, maggi, samosas and momo shops. “Thupa”
and “Aloo Paratha” two distinct dishes of two absolutely different cultures
amalgamates in this place to gives you the sweet aroma of unity in diversity.
If you are looking for a
place to relax, unwind and recuperate from the exhaustion of busy city life
then “Kasauli” should definitely be your favorite place to visit this season.
